DALAWANGLIBOATSAMPU

Each day is a page in life…

And everyday we try to fill it to the brim.

Sometimes we get to write of wondrous things…

Still other times we just want to burn them all from memory.

We meet characters we’d like to meet again and again

And others whom which we wished we never had.

Some often too remembered, some so easily forgotten…

We keep photographs to remember moments

Imprinted in mind and heart to hold them forever.

Soundtrack that makes us dance or groove about…

Or move us to stillness and reminisce…

Sometimes we have good takes…

Sometimes we wish to scratch the scene out…

Sometimes we wish the Director will yell ‘cut!’

But the play goes on…

It is not time for the credits yet…

”New Year’s eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights.”

— Hamilton Wright Mabie

Thank you, Lord for this journey… hope I do better for you next year.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of my world this year… thank you for traveling with me!

Happy New Year, everyone! Here’s to beginning and continuing!

Godspeed!

Shabba!

one Christmas eclipse

"Christmas is a time to open our hearts to God and his gifts. Just like the rest of the year." -- Author Unknown

*** Took this hurried shot on our way home from kins last night... My aunt was wondering why the streets are quiet as if it ain't Christmas. Turned out that most people were at church hearing mass... which made me smile. Amidst the busyness of things and the wrappings and trappings of the day... the real reason of the season is not forgotten... Yesterday's merriment is done... but Christmas doesn't end there...

Blessed be.

ps: Eclipses are meant to shroud things but it's also meant to reveal things... and this year's Christmas did just that.

one street dance moment

"You can dance anywhere, even if only in your heart." --- Author Unknown

*** The other day, we were all puzzled why big speakers were placed in from of our neighbors and a certain Christmas carol (Mr. C's Kumukutikutitap) was played over and over again... Turned out, there's a street dance featuring kids from public schools... Cool! Awesome costumes too! :)

a mission of presence

finger drumming...
tons to do
and I pause again...
assessing.
closing my ears

wanting so much
to get the message

for a toothless smile...

the opportunity knocks,
do you close your door?
the silent voice screams,
would you turn a deaf ear?
deliberate.
ponder.
listen to your heart...
what does it say?
all good.
you made someone smile today.

*** four seasons after, and you still got me dumbfounded. you gave me moments to gasp and wow me with so many creative minds… how do i write about you? haven’t written about you since the first… the other two lurks in archive limbo, waiting for me to gather, arrange them and pick a fave… and the latest, still hot from trailblazing, got me too overwhelmed that i’m still dazed from it all… how do i write about you? the thinker thinks again while crossing the runways… which eyes must i see you with? i watched you from different angles and caught even the unseen… closed my eyes and heard the silent… how do i write about you?

forty days (the “soroko-ust”)

"Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!" --- Henry Scott Holland
*** We celebrated Tito's forty days last friday... morning mass with Kuya Dennis as priest at the cemetery, (cool homily about the caterpillar/butterfly analogy)... then luncheon with kins and people who remembered Tito... By evening, we have a grasshopper for a visitor... we were told that like a butterfly, it's a manifestation of Tito's soul.
Pray for us, Tito... as we continue to pray for you. We miss you!

*** posting this for memory... the neighbors are cutting down their trees again... not trimming or pruning but cutting them down... most of the trees i remember during my childhood are gone now... sampaloc, camachile, duhat, siningwelas... all gone... from our backyard, where used to be lush green... i can see a big chunk of the sky now... today, another mango tree was fell... i wonder what's going on in the minds of our neighbors... it's their lost... really... hmmm... ain't it illegal to cut down old trees?

good morning distractions

woke half hoping to grasp some sense

but the world has other plans

had a dream that tells me of a mission

will i believe

or pretend silliness

ruffled feathers guards its young

while a fan tail dance with her reflection

remembered the snake that hung on the tree

as the sunbeam chased my thoughts away

stepped out to begin

but incy stopped me on my tracks

a half a dozen steps and gone

pressed enter

time to move on…

we try to grasp issues

only to stumble anew

and almost want to give up

goodbye, Tito Ferdie...

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

-- Mary Elizabeth Frye
